Laois Gardaí To Focus On Drug Drivers This Weekend

The May Bank Holiday traditionally is a high-risk period for crashes.

Gardaí in Laois will be keeping a close eye out for drug driving offences over this bank holiday weekend.

Gardaí, the RSA and the RNLI, are issuing their respective safety appeals today, with the long weekend traditionally a high-risk period for crashes related to speeding, alcohol and drugs.

This year so far, 69 lives have been lost on Irish road, a rise of 16 on the same time last year.

Superintendent Eamon Curley of Portlaoise Garda Station says there will be mandatory intoxicant testing at checkpoints around the county:
