Decision On Proposed Offaly Hospital Extension Due Tomorrow

The original 99-bed project got the green light last year.

A decision on a major extension to a proposed Tullamore private hospital is due tomorrow.

John Flanagan Developments already received planning permission for the original 99-bed project on the Wellwood Healthcare Campus last year.

Construction on the 99-bed private hospital was due to start in the summer of 2023, but the developer put those plans on hold and instead approached Offaly County Council with a proposal to expand the facility.

Those plans would see an extra 50 beds added to the hospital, bringing the total to just under 150.

The decision was made following a number of feasibility studies, which John Flanagan Developments says made it evident the facility will need to cater for more people.

Offaly County Council had been due to decide on the future of the hospital in February, but instead sought additional information, and is now due to make a decision on the extension tomorrow.
