Westmeath 'Friendship Club' Aims To Tackle Loneliness

It's been in operation for nearly 30 years, and is asking people to reach out.

Elderly people in a Westmeath town are being invited to a meet-up later this month, in an effort to combat loneliness.

The Friendship Club in Delvin has been running for almost 30 years and aims to being local elderly people together to learn new skills.

Once a month, the club comes together and invites a speaker or instructor on topics such as exercise or crafts, and provide meals.

The club currently has 70 members and around 25 volunteers and can also assist with setting up services like emergency pendants.
