He sustained minor injuries leading to bruising on his face, particularly around one eye.
Homelessness campaigner Fr Peter McVerry has been assaulted at his home.
Fr McVerry opened the door to a person in the early hours of last Wednesday morning, and said it was apparent the person was affected by drugs and alcohol.
A spokesperson says that in the brief interaction that followed, Fr McVerry sustained minor injuries leading to bruising on his face, particularly around one eye.

He is recovering from his injuries, and didn't require hospitalisation.
The person has contacted him to apologise, and the homelessness campaigner says he now considers the matter closed.
