REM's "Everybody Hurts" is the saddest song ever written.
Sinead O'Connor's "Nothing Compares 2 U" has just missed the top spot in the list of "ultimate tearjerker" songs.
A new survey found REM's "Everybody Hurts" is the saddest song ever written, followed by Sinead O'Connor's anthem, then Eric Clapton's "Tears in Heaven" and Whitney Heuston's classic "I Will Always Love You".
The findings by Earex found half of people believe music has a big impact on their mood while 36 per cent find sad songs nostalgic.
