He passed away following a battle with cancer.
A former Offaly county councillor is being remembered at his funeral as a man who had a desire to serve and protect others.
Ken Smollen passed away at the age of 60 on Friday after a battle with cancer.
The former Garda stepped down from the local authority last September after serving from 2019.
A Garda cap and a jersey were among the gifts brought to the alter to recognise his service to the local community and his love of sport.
Those gathered at his funeral mass in Tullamore heard he was a good man who left his mark on all who knew him:
