A former Offaly councillor has died.
John Flanagan served as a Fianna Fáil rep in Tullamore for two decades, from the mid 1980s to the mid 2000s.
He was also responsible for the building and operating of the Tullamore Court.
His company, John Flanagan Developments, rebuilt the Church of the Assumption after a fire devastated the building in the 1980s.
Mr. Flanagan was also a previous shareholder of Midlands 103, up until 2002.
Speaking to Albert Fitzgerald on Midlands 103's 'Life and Times' in 2005, he says the people of Tullamore were always very generous:
Following the passing of its Founder, John Flanagan Developments says his indelible mark on Tullamore will endure for generations to come:
'John was a visionary, a pioneer, whose dreams became the bricks and mortar that shaped his beloved town.
John was more than just a developer; he was a steward of progress, a custodian of community, and a believer in the transformative power of good architecture.
From quaint residential developments to cutting-edge commercial hubs, John's developments dotted the landscape, seamlessly blending modernity with the town's rich heritage.
But John’s legacy extends far beyond the buildings he erected. He was a pillar of the community, a philanthropist whose generosity touched countless lives.
The company mourns the loss of a true luminary. Yet, amidst the sorrow, there is gratitude - gratitude for the man who dared to dream, who dared to build, and who dared to make Tullamore a better place for all who call it home.'
