"A Lot Of Spin, Very Few Jobs" - Midlands Councillor Warns Against Data Centre Optimism

A recent report has suggested Offaly could provide a suitable location for a new facility.

A midlands councillor is warning people not to be too optimistic about data centres, as they often "have a lot of spin, with very few jobs".

Fianna Fáil's Eamon Dooley says Bord na Móna previously made promises in relation to data centres and jobs that were never created.

It comes as a recent report from Siemens Ireland suggested Rhode as a suitable location for a new facility, which could make the midlands a new hub for data centres.

But, Councillor Dooley says they're not designed to create jobs:
