Agri Minister To Review Support Scheme For Farmers Affected

Many farmers saw their silage lost due to heavy rainfall last summer.

The Agriculture Minister is set to assess the results of a scheme aimed at supporting farmers impacted by summer flooding along the Shannon Callows.

Thousands of bales of silage and hay were lost due to heavy rainfall last summer, which led to a number of protests in Offaly from the Save Our Shannon Organisation.

A support scheme was put in place by the Government, which offered €325 per hectare, capped at €4,875 per farmer, however, there have been concerns with delays to payments since then.

After a 'wetter than normal' August, and speaking at the National Ploughing Championships in Ratheniska, Agriculture Minister, Charlie McConalogue, says he hopes farmers on the Callows won't face flooding issues again:
