American Man Charged With Murdering His Father In Laois Hotel

He has been remanded in custody to Cloverhill Prison.

An American man is due back in court next week, after being charged with the murder of his father at a five-star hotel in Co. Laois.

The body of 60-year-old John McGowan was found in the Leisure area of Ballyfin Demesne, on Tuesday night.

His son, 30-year-old Henry McGowan, of Clinton Street, Brooklyn, New York, appeared before Portlaoise District Court this morning, charged with his murder.

The court heard it’s accepted the accused has significant mental health issues, and needs immediate medical attention in prison.

Henry McGowan was remanded in custody, and is due back in court on Monday.
