The facility will be able to accommodate up to 90 people.
The approval of plans for a new nursing home in Westmeath has been upheld by An Bord Pleanála.
Permission is being sought for a 90-bed facility and a residential development in Robinstown, Mullingar.
WHS Property Holdings was granted planning permission to develop the three-storey, 90-bed nursing home by Westmeath County Council in February 2023.
The plans also include the provision of 81 homes, including 13 elderly bungalows, and a coffee shop.
The proposals were appealed to An Bord Pleanala, with claims the site being 2km from the town centre, and opposite an industrial site, is inappropriate for the provision of a nursing home and housing for the elderly.
The appeal also states Mullingar doesn't require a new nursing home.
However, ABP has upheld Westmeath County Council's decision to approve the proposed development, stating it would be in accordance with the proper planning and sustainable development of the area.
As part of 22 conditions recommended by the planning body, it suggests granting approval for only 80 homes, as opposed to the planned 81.
The same measure was asked by the local authority when it granted planning permission last year.
