Assisted Dying Legislation Could Be Open To Abuse - Committee Member

The Longford Westmeath TD supported a dissenting minority bill.

One of the members of the Assisted Dying Committee believes the legislation could be open to abuse.

Longford Westmeath Fianna Fáil Deputy Robert Troy was one of three TDs who supported a dissenting minority bill, after the Oireachtas Committee called on the Government to legalise assisted dying in certain restricted circumstances.

It would primarily apply to those who have received a medical diagnosis which is incurable, and will cause death within half a year.
