The device was discovered outside of a home this morning.
A number of houses in the midlands have been evacuated, following the discovery of a suspicious device.
Gardaí were alerted to the presence of the item outside a home in Grange Meadows in Mullingar earlier this morning.
A cordon has been put in place and the Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit are currently at the scene.
Investigations are ongoing.
