It's expected to be closed until September.
A busy bridge in the midlands will have to be replaced, after an analysis revealed structural damage.
The bridge crossing the Yellow River between Rhode and Rochfortbridge will be closed until September 1st, while the works are carried out.
The closure is in effect from the junction of the M6 Roundabout at Farthingstown to the roundabout at Coolville just North of Rhode Village.
The route connects Rochfortbridge and the M6 to the greater North Offaly area.
