Call Made for Harsher Deterrents To Combat Number of People Drunk Driving

Over 370 drivers in the Midlands had their samples analysed last year.

There are calls for harsher deterrents to combat the numbers of people driving while intoxicated.

Over 370 midlands drivers provided samples for analysis in 2023. 

It comes as a report by the Medical Bureau of Road Safety revealed 265 motorists were arrested more than once last year for driving under the influence, with one caught seven times.

Vice-President of the Irish Road Victims Association Leo Lieghio says those caught should be taken off the roads:
