Expanding third-level education in Laois would benefit students, their families and the county as a whole.
That's according to Local Election Candidate running in Portlaoise, Naeem Iqbal, who says potential students would have more time for study and save on the cost of living.
He also believes it would be attractive to other students across Ireland and internationally hoping to save more money.
The Fianna Fáil rep says it would be goof for more local students to have the option of living at home:
