Calls For Supports To Remove Ash Dieback-Affected Trees From Roadsides

Councillors in Westmeath have agreed to write to the State on the measure.

Westmeath councillors are set to write to the State, requesting supports for land owners to remove trees affected by ash dieback from the roadsides. 

The campaign was raised at a meeting of the Athlone Moate area yesterday, where it was agreed a letter would be sent to the Department of Housing and Local Government.

Currently, there are provisions in place to fund €5,000 per hectare to farmers who have trees with the condition.
