A former Army Ranger is calling for the Junior Defence Minister to be delegated powers, in light of a review into how many serving members have convictions for gender-based violence.

Protests were held across the country yesterday in solidarity with Natasha O'Brien, who's attacker, soldier Cathal Crotty received a fully suspended sentence after beating her unconscious in May 2022.

Kildare South TD, Cathal Berry, says the Defence Forces have been looking for powers of suspension and powers of dismissal for gross misconduct.
