An Independent Councillor is asking the local authority to follow in the footsteps of other County Councils.
Laois County Council is being urged to implement a full-time road safety officer.
It comes as 71 people have died on Irish roads already this year, 15 more than the same time last year.
Independent Councillor James Kelly says a number of local authorities already have a dedicated road safety officer, and Laois County Council should follow suit.
