Campaign For Inclusion Of Midlands Special Schools In Pilot Scheme Reaches Taoiseach

The three schools in Laois and Offaly are fighting to be included in the programme.

The campaign to include three Laois and Offaly special schools in a new pilot programme has reached the Taoiseach's doorstep.

They were excluded from the State's 16-school scheme, which would see the delivery of therapy supports to students.

Six schools were chosen initially in Dublin and Cork, however, it's understood all 16 sites have been selected in the same two regions.

Laois Offaly Fine Gael TD, Charlie Flanagan, has written to Taoiseach Simon Harris on the matter.

He says the exclusion of any school is unacceptable:

Over 300 people have signed a petition aimed at including the three schools, St. Francis and Kolbe Special Schools in Laois, and Offaly School of Special Education, in the pilot programme.

They serve around 200 students between them.

The online petition has set a target of 500 signatures, and has received 329 so far.
