His award almost ended up in the bin in Spain.
A midlands champion golfer has been re-united with his trophy after being forced to abandon it in Spain on Sunday.
Offaly's Joe Lyons was told by Ryanair staff his Spanish Seniors Amateur Open cup would be binned if he left it behind after being told he couldn't carry it on board unless it was in his carry bag.
The airline subsequently apologised to the Banagher golfer and flew the trophy back to Ireland for him.
The Irish Seniors Close champion got his hands back on the cup yesterday evening after Ryanair couriered the trophy to him in.
