Close to 1m Irish people paid a visit to the East and Midlands in the first three months of the year.
It makes the region the second most popular behind the South of the Country, which claimed more than 40% of the domestic tourism.
People across the country took over 3m domestic overnight trips in the first quarter of the year.
The total expenditure for that period amounts to €576m.
