Laois Councillors delivered a parting shot at the county council in their last meeting before the upcoming elections.
Elected representatives branded the council's presentation on the need for new sports facilities in Portlaoise "piece-meal" and "a disgrace".
Laois County Council's suggestion the town's growing population could be serviced by the introduction of an additional sports hall "as a community-level facility" angered councillors at the local authorities final monthly meeting.
Portlaoise MD Cathaoirleach Catherine Fitzgerald labelled the council's response a "disgrace".
The Fianna Fail rep accused the county council of not listening to the elected members, saying she was "ashamed to say this response came from the council".
Labour's Marie Tuohy insisted the council fundamentally misunderstood what was needed.
Saying they didn't need another piece-meal fix, another hall that's too small.
While Sinn Féin Councillor Caroline Dwane-Stanley believes a new site needs to be secured as a matter of urgency and stakeholders such as Sport Ireland and Basketball Ireland needed to involved as soon as possible.
It comes after a feasibility report from five years ago was published last week, highlighting the need for a new 12-court, multi-use, indoor hall for the town.
