CSO Figures Reveal The Average Cost Of A Home In The Midlands

The number of homes purchased per county, the average age of a home buyer, and their annual income were also surveyed.

New data from the CSO shows the number of homes sold in the midlands in 2019.

They also revealed the average cost of a home in the region.

800 homes were sold in Westmeath, which is the most in the midlands. The average cost of a home in the county was €176,750, which is also the most expensive in the region. The average age of a home buyer in the county was 39, and their income was €54,975.

710 homes were sold in Laois, at an average of €167,000. The average age of those who bought a home was 38, and their income was €55,500.

Offaly sold the least amount of homes in the region at 520, at an average of €153,000. The average age of a home buyer was 39, and their income was €53,666.

In Laois, three districts were surveyed. 

330 homes were sold in Portlaoise at an average of €190,000 230 were sold in Portarlington/Graiguecullen at an average of €135,000 and 150 were sold in Borris-In-Ossory/Mountmellick at an average of €177,000. 

Of the three districts surveyed in Offaly, Tullamore sold the most homes with 230 at an average of €179,000. 160 were sold in Edenderry at an average of €155,000 and 150 were bought in Birr at €125,000 on average.

Westmeath sold the most homes in the region, with Mullingar selling the most in the county with 300 at an average of €185,300. 220 homes were bought in Athlone at €176,500 on average. 160 homes were sold in Kinnegad at an average of €180,500 and 120 were sold in Moate at €165,000
