The facility closed down last year.
A decision on demolishing parts of a massive mink factory in the midlands is due today.
Plans have been submitted for the demolition of 74 buildings at the VASA facility in Ballymanus, Stradbally.
The facility closed last year, after the introduction of the Animal Health and Welfare and Forestry (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2021, which saw almost all mink farming related activities in Ireland ceased with almost immediate effect.
The planning file states VASA Ltd has decided to use what few buildings it can for cattle farming, but the majority of the premises will need to be removed.
The total size of the site set to be demolished amounts to over 33,000 square metres.
The submission to Laois County Council notes the required disposal of asbestos from the roof of the existing buildings.
It's also seeking permission to remove a 40 foot shipping container, and four animal feed silos with a total capacity of over 1,000 cubic metres.
The local authority is due to make a decision on the development today, after receiving additional information in November.
