Delay In Deploying Public Order Unit Put Gardaí In Coolock At Risk - GRA

Protests at a site earmarked for asylum seekers turned violent yesterday.

The Garda Representative Association says delays in deploying the Garda Public Order Unit puts their members at risk.

They are criticising the time it took the unit to attend the violent incidents in Coolock yesterday.

They say they will be bringing this issue to the Garda Commissioner and will demand that Gardaí are better prepared for "future attacks".

The Taoiseach says what happened in Coolock yesterday was utterly reprehensible, despicable and sheer thuggery.

More arrests are expected today after 15 people appeared in court charged with public order offences when a protest in North Dublin turned violent.

Four more people are expected in court this afternoon.
