The Portlaoise facility is expected to play a major role in the delivery of housing around the State.
A new automated steel fabrication facility will lead to the creation of 62 new jobs in Laois.
It's being unveiled in Portlaoise today and will result in a 75% reduction in build time.
The €16m SMART plant will need 80% less onsite labour and will set new standards in the construction industry.
Jobs created by the development include top-quality engineering positions, robotic technicians, estimators, BIM modellers, mechanical and electrical technicians, and steel fixers.
With the Irish Government’s commitment to building 300,000 homes by 2030 asoutlined in the Programme for Government document, Midland Steel’s hopes its modern methods of construction, including FasterFix and Ready Mesh technology, position them to support those targets.
