Just over €1m is being allocated to higher and further education providers in the midlands to help disadvantaged students access online material.
Higher Education Minister Simon Harris made the announcement, adding that the money has allowed a bulk order of 16,700 laptops to be made by colleges across Ireland.
Carlow IT are the biggest beneficiaries with an allocation of €529,690, followed by Athlone Institute of Technology at more than 272,400.
Education and Training boards have also been included, Laois/Offaly's management have been given €145,000 while Longford/Westmeath received 145,500.
