€870k In Community Funding Going to Laois and Westmeath

Ten projects have secured funding in the latest round of Community Recognition funding.

Sports clubs, community services, and play spaces across Laois and Westmeath are in line to get over €870,000 in funding.

10 projects will be supported in the latest round of Community Recognition Fund from the Department of Rural and Community Development.

There's four grants, with an overall value of €308,000, being issued in Laois for a community minibus in Portlaoise, a Rathdowney playground, upgrades to the Emo/Rath Athletics Club running track, and to the car park and toilet facilities at St Colman's National School in Stradbally.

While in Westmeath over €550,000 is being made available to develop Mullingar Swimming Pool, upgrade a playground in Coole, along with football pitch improvements in Dalton Park, along with refurbishing St Mary's Community Hall.

There are 6 Westmeath projects in total.

Nationally the department is announcing over €14,000,000 for 163 community projects.

Laois Rathdowney Laois Local Authority Playground and MUGA enhancement €95,000 

Laois Emo Emo/Rath Athletics Club Tartan sprint lanes €82,260

Westmeath Mullingar Westmeath County Council Mullingar Swimming Pool - Refurbishment and essential repairs €100,000 

Westmeath Coole/ Castlepollard Westmeath County Council Upgrades to the existing playground in Coole €100,000 

Westmeath Athlone Westmeath County Council Brawney MUGA improvements €50,000 

Westmeath Mullingar Westmeath County Council Dalton Park MUGA pitch resurfacing works €80,000 

Westmeath Athlone Westmeath County Council Clonbrusk MUGA improvements €50,000 

Westmeath Athlone Westmeath County Council Refurbishment of St. Mary’s Community Hall (Phase 2) €186,000
