Electric vehicles, at the moment, are better suited to short commutes.
It comes as statistics reveal that in Westmeath, a commuter county with two big provencial towns in Mullingar and Athlone, saw 18% of cars bought in the first six months of 2023 be EVs.
Meanwhile in Offaly, a more rural county, the percentage was only around 12%.
