The region has sold more than 2,000 EVs since 2020.
Electric vehicles account for just 9% of total sales in the midlands since 2020.
Over 2,000 EVs have been sold in the region in that time, according to figures released to Fine Gael TD Richard Bruton.
Electric cars make up more than one in ten vehicles in Westmeath - the largest rate in the midlands.
Two thirds of drivers in the county continue to travel in petrol and diesel vehicles, while hybrids account for nearly a quarter of sales.
Nearly 10% of motorists in Laois are driving an EV, while fossil fuel car sales are dominating the county, with petrol and diesel cars accounting for seven in ten vehicles.
Offaly has one of the lowest rate of EV sales in the country, at 7%.
Motorists in the east of the country are the most likely to make the switch to electric vehicles, with EVs accounting for around one in seven new car registrations since 2020.
