Maths and Irish are the subjects with the biggest shortage of qualified teachers.

The teacher shortage is said to be improving, despite there being hundreds of vacant positions.

It follows an unpublished Department of Education report viewed by the Irish Times which reveals 800 positions are filled by teachers not qualified to teach their subject.
