Sean Burke had been given a suspended sentence but chose to not obey the terms.
The father of jailed schoolteacher Enoch Burke has been jailed for two months for assaulting a female Garda.
Sean Burke had been given a suspended sentence but he opted not to obey its terms, so he’s been brought into custody.
This case arises from the Four Courts in March 2023 when Enoch Burke was appearing over a legal dispute involving his sacking from Wilson’s Hospital School.
His father Sean and his sister Ammi were charged when rowdy scenes broke out both in and outside the courtroom.
Ammi was found guilty of obstructing a Garda but she’s successful appealed that this morning.
Her father Sean meanwhile was found guilty of assaulting a female Garda by knocking her to the ground and this decision stands.
The Judge said an attack on a Garda is an attack on the State.
He jailed Sean Burke for two months but suspended this if he agreed to keep the peace and be of good behavior for 12 months.
However Sean Burke declined, and as a result he has been imprisoned for the two months.
Before this Ammi Burke was escorted out of courtroom when she interjected and attempted to speak during her father’s sentencing.
