Two children are among the injured.
A girl and a woman are seriously injured after a suspected stabbing in Dublin City Centre.
Three other people, including two other children, have also been injured.
All five injured people have been taken to different hospitals across Dublin, including Children's Health Ireland at Crumlin and the Mater Hospital.
It is understood that a man arrived and first attacked a woman, before injuring the children.
He also sustained injuries and is now been treated in hospital, where Gardaí are waiting to speak to him.
Gardaí say they are following a definite line of inquiry and are not looking for any other person at this time.
Aontú Leader and Meath West TD Peadar Toibín says we're living in a time where Ireland is becoming a more violent place.
He says it's largely due to a reduction in Garda numbers:
Deputy Toibín says:
“I am shocked by the news that three young children have been stabbed near a girls school in the Northside of Dublin this afternoon.
We hope and pray that the victims of this heinous attack receive urgent care, recover fully and that those responsible are swiftly brought to justice
Whilst details of the incident are still emerging, it is clear that this is just violent crime in the capital and other towns and cities is on the increase.
Its quite clear that we have reached a dangerous tipping point in terms of crime and anti-social behaviour in towns and villages across the country.
Ireland is becoming a more violent and dangerous place. The spike in violent crime unfolding in towns and villages across the country has not happened by accident. Garda numbers are at their lowest in 5 years.
Rank and file garda numbers are at the lowest in 6 years.
Ireland has now one of the smallest per capita police forces in the whole of the EU”.
Sinn Fein leader Mary Lou McDonald is a TD for Dublin's North Inner City.
She says her thoughts are with the children and families affected:
The Lord Mayor of Dublin has described the attack as evil and devastating.
Daithi de Roiste says his thoughts are with the families involved, and he is praying that the victims make a full recovery.
The Education Minister says the National Educational Psychological Service is providing support to the school community.
Norma Foley adds "our hearts and minds go out to all who were injured today and to all of their families."
