Minister of Public Works Patrick O'Donovan was in Westmeath today.
Flood relief works at the Strand, the Quay and Deerpark areas of Athlone are on course to be finished in 2022.
OPW Minister Patrick O'Donovan visited the sites earlier today to oversee their progress.
He also took the opportunity to meet with the 'Save our Shannon' group as well as local councillors and officials.
