The government's new forestry scheme is being criticised for associated costs and its "hard to meet criteria."
Junior Agriculture Minister and Offaly Green Party Senator Pippa Hackett launched the Our Forestry Programme last month, and invited applicants to make a submission.
But, Padraig Egan, from Axe Forestry Limited, says stipulations, particularly on those around peat lands, make planting trees for the scheme on marginal land very difficult.
He also claims the cost of submitting an application, including reports on ecology, birds and other aspects, can cost around €3,000.
