Sinn Fein's Brian Stanley has been coming under pressure regarding a recent tweet.
Brian Stanley's comments on IRA murders speak for themselves.
That's according to the Sinn Féin TD's Laois-Offaly constituency colleague Charlie Flanagan.
Deputy Stanley posted a tweet over the weekend, referring to two republican ambushes.
Northern Ireland First Minister Arlene Foster is writing to the Ceann Comhairle in response to the remarks, while the son of murdered Laois prison officer Brian Stack is calling for Deputy Stanley to resign as chair of the Oireachtas Public Accounts Committee.
Fine Gael's Charlie Flanagan isn't surprised by the comments:
Offaly senator Pippa Hackett has also issued a statement on the matter:
“The Green Party is an all-island party, and we have members drawn from many traditions. We need to rise above the things that separate us and work together for a shared future.
The commemorations of the War of Independence can stir up a lot of emotion, but 100 years on, we should try to overcome divisions rather than reopening wounds.
Deputy Stanley’s comments were hurtful, inciteful, and poorly judged. He is obviously now aware of that himself and has apologized.”
TWEET: Mr. Stack says the comments "have brought shame on Laois".
