GDPR rules can be a cause of delays in cancer research.

Currently, if a person diagnosed with cancer provides access to a blood or tissue sample to researchers, it may only be used in that instance, with further permission needed to use the sample in a new treatment or development programme.

Mullingar's Ally Byrne, who's husband Michael suffered a relapse in Multiple Myleoma earlier this year, paid a visit to one of the research labs for Breakthrough Cancer Research.

She has been speaking with Will Faulkner on Midlands Today and says there should be an option for blanket consent:
