Currently, if a person diagnosed with cancer provides access to a blood or tissue sample to researchers, it may only be used in that instance, with further permission needed to use the sample in a new treatment or development programme.
Mullingar's Ally Byrne, who's husband Michael suffered a relapse in Multiple Myleoma earlier this year, paid a visit to one of the research labs for Breakthrough Cancer Research.
