A 20 year long campaign to reopen a former Westmeath train station has received a major boost.
Irish Rail has agreed to apply to the National Transport Authority for a feasibility study into Killucan Train Station, following a meeting with Westmeath County Council.
The station, located on the Dublin-Sligo line, has been closed since the 1960s.
Local Labour councillor Denis Leonard is among those who've been campaigning for the station to be refurbished.
He says it's hugely positive news, given Irish Rail has resisted their calls for years:
