A Longford Westmeath TD is putting pressure on the Housing Minister to provide clearer guidance to local authorities on retrofitting their homes.
Fine Gael's Micheál Carrigy says he wants to ensure homeowners don't get caught out.
It follows a recent case where a family in Dublin were told external insulation they received council grant for, was in breach of planning conditions.
Deputy Carrigy also thinks looking into increased funds for county councils would help with retrofitting housing stock.
He says amendments need to be made to the laws if necessary:
