Irish Water Says Midlands Town "Not Adversely Impacted" By Sewage Issues

The body was responding to an EPA report that raised concerns over wastewater system.

The water quality in Athlone "is not adversely impacted" by sewage capacity challenges.

That's according to Irish Water responding to a report by the Environmental Protection Agency, which highlighted concerns over the town's wastewater system.

The body said it is committed to the delivery of the Main Drainage project that will reduce the risk of sewer flooding and overflows into the River Shannon.

New pumping systems, tunnel sewers and the rehabilitation of previous sewers will be needed to address the issues.
