A midlands councilor is branding the closure of a community welfare office in Laois as "disgraceful".
Fianna Fáil's Paddy Bracken says the office in Mountmellick serviced up to 10,000 people, offering appointments two days a week and house calls to elderly and infirmed people.
People will now have to travel to Portlaoise or Tullamore to avail of the service which he feels is unacceptable.
