Laois TD Proposes Regulations For Wind Farm Developments

He believes there is currently an absence of regulations.

A Laois TD is launching a bill to regulate wind farms.

Independent TD Brian Stanley believes wind farm developments are long overdue fresh regulation.

The current guidelines are from 2006 and don’t take into account that modern turbines are 3 - 4 times higher than in that year. 

Deputy Stanley wants meaningful public consultation, proper set back distances for dwellings and a community co-ownership model.

He says his plan will allow local communities to buy up to 10% ownership of a wind farm in their area:
