Irish Water Safety is appealing to people to only swim at life guarded waterways.

Lifeguards saved more than 300 lives along Irish waterways in 2019.

With temperatures set to hit 25 degrees in places this weekend, many people will be heading to beaches, rivers and lakes to cool down.

Irish Water Safety is appealing to people to only swim at life guarded waterways, which are listed on watersafety.ie.

CEO and Athlone's John Leech says swimmers need to be mindful that we are just coming out of a new moon, and ripcurrents are particularly common along coastlines this weekend:
