2024 Offaly Local Elections Day One

Live coverage from the Mucklagh count centre.

At 2.12am on Sunday morning, Offaly County Council saw its first member elected.

On the first count for Tullamore, Neil Feighery cleared a quota of 1,459 with 503 votes to spare.

This is the result in full:

Neil Feighery (FG) - 1,962 Elected

Frank Moran (FF) - 1429

Sean O’Brien (IND) - 1337

Tony McCormack (FF) - 1326

Declan Harvey (FF) - 1269

Aoife Masterson (SF) - 1216

Ollie Byrant (FF) - 1182

Sandy Feehan-Smollen (IND) - 782

Patrick Broder (IFP) - 418

Liam Walsh (GP) - 394

Tim Farrell (SF) - 201

Deirdre Dillon (IND) - 155

The Edenderry and Birr counts were adjourned until Sunday morning shortly after midnight.

Based on earlier tallies, Fergus McDonell is set to return to Offaly County Council 20 years after last being elected.

The Independent Ireland candidate swept to over a thousand first preference votes.

He tells Midlands 103's David Hollywood the people he canvassed treated him well:

Councillor John Leahy is expecting to be elected in the Birr Local Election Area after winning over 1,600 first preference votes.

The Independent rep says results will come quickly once the first count is done:

Councillor Tony McCormack will be returned to Offaly County Council in Tullamore after picking up 1,329 first preference votes.

The Fianna Fail rep got in as the sixth elected candidate in 2019.

He tells Midlands 103's David Hollywood his success is owed to his support network:

Eddie Fitzpatrick will top the poll in Edenderry in the 2024 Local Elections based on early tallies from Saturday.

 

The Fianna Fail councillor performed strongly in all jurisdictions within the electoral area and will be elected on the first count.

The Cloneygowan man topped the same poll in the 2019 local elections.

He said he's grateful for the resounding show of support:

Claire Murray is running for Sinn Fein in Edenderry.

She told Midlands 103's David Hollywood she expects it to be a tight race for the last seat:
