Major Westmeath Wastewater More Than Halfway To Being Complete

The upgrade is worth €114m.

Major wastewater works in Westmeath have surpassed the halfway point.

The €114m upgrade in Athlone aims to reduce the risk of sewer flooding in the town, while addressing non-compliant overflows to the River.

1.6km of the 2.8km underground sewer pipes have been installed so far.

The next phase of the project involves tunneling works at Abbey Road and the Strand, with the works set to be finished by the end of 2025.
