The Gardaí were alerted to the incident shortly before 8pm yesterday evening.
A man remains in garda custody this evening, following the death of an American guest at a five-star hotel in Co. Laois.
The body of the man, who was in his 60s, was found in Ballyfin Demesne shortly after 8pm last night, after only arriving in Ireland hours earlier.
It’s believed he had been assaulted in the Leisure Centre.
A man in his 30s, who was known to the victim and also from the United States, has been arrested.
It’s understood the two men had travelled together and were guests at the hotel.
A family liaison officer has been appointed to support the victim’s family.
Ballyfin Demesne is one of Ireland’s most exclusive hotels it has just 20 rooms with celebrity guests choosing to stay here due to its privacy.
