Looking at the results of the Local Elections in Laois, Offaly and Westmeath.
Sinn Féin saw the largest gains of any political party in the midlands in the 2024 Local Elections.
The party secured an additional five seats in the region, rising from two to seven.
Fianna Fáil continues to be the largest party in the midlands, after securing an additional seat in the 2024 Local Elections.
The party climbed from 22, to 23.
Fine Gael lost a seat in the region, after Thomasina Connell failed to retain her place on Laois County Council - the party holds 14 seats in the region, down from 15.
Labour retained their three existing seats, with Johnnie Penrose, Denis Leonard and Marie Tuohy holding on to their positions.
Newly-established Independent Ireland claimed two new seats, one in Offaly and one in Westmeath.
While the number of Independents in the region fell from 11 to nine.
The Green Party saw all of their candidates eliminated, falling from three sitting councillors to none.
