Offaly's Pippa Hackett has been raising awareness of the issue in the Seanad and also paying tribute to local activist Mary McHugh for her work.
The Junior Agriculture Minister and Green Party senator is appealing for the HSE's three new menopause clinics to be opened as soon as possible, to ensure women have access to specialised advice and treatment.
She says some women are even forced to quit their jobs because the lack of awareness and supports:
