Midlands School Among 51 Fee-Paying Institutes To Receive Millions In Tax Payers Money

The state spent almost €500m, in the space of five years, on the salaries of teachers in private schools. 

The state spent almost €500m, in the space of five years, on the salaries of teachers in private schools. 

The bill for last year was over 104 million euro, according to freedom of information figures. 

It covered 51 fee-paying schools across the state, including Cistercian College in Roscrea which received just €1m in the year 2021-2022.

The Social Democrats education spokesman, Gary Gannon, is calling for the government to stop subsidising fee-paying schools:
